Assuredly, this little fern is beginning to join the unusual vegetation on Hawaii’s vast volcanic deposits. Peeking up from cracks and crevices, plants start to colonize after spewed lava has cooled for a few months. Rain falls between these cracks, and lava contains most of the nutrients for seeds to grow. Pretty awesome.
